Bastide de la Salette Golf Club in Marseille awarded Silver label!

The Golf Bastide de la Salette and Resonance Golf Collection teams are proud to announce that they have officially been awarded the Label Argent Golf pour la Biodiversité (Silver Golf for Biodiversity Label) by the French Golf Federation in collaboration with the French National Museum of Natural History.

Nestling in the green hills of Marseille, our golf course has been committed for several years to a concrete and sustainable approach to preserving local biodiversity. This label rewards the many actions taken in the field: rational management of natural areas, creation of habitats favourable to flora and fauna, reduction of inputs, monitoring of species present, and raising public awareness.

Awarded by a committee of experts from the worlds of golf, the environment, sport and biodiversity, this label shows that our club knows, acts and shares in favour of nature.

This is just a first step: we are passionately pursuing our commitment to making Golf Bastide de la Salette a real showcase for nature in the city, open to all and a key player in the ecological transition.

Actions to preserve biodiversity at Golf Bastide de la Salette

Preservation of a herbaceous layer and differentiated mowing

Preservation of a herbaceous layer and differentiated mowing

A schedule and protocol for differentiated mowing have been put in place. For example, mowing of the rough now begins in the middle of the rough, allowing insects and animals to escape in complete safety.

All these measures have led to a significant increase in the number of flowers, demonstrating the benefits of these initiatives for local biodiversity.

Encouraging biodiversity by creating alternative micro-habitats

Fourteen nest boxes have been installed: six for bats, four for squirrels and four for birds.

This initiative has also led to a partnership with a class of disabled children, promoting awareness, education and the transmission of environmental values to future generations. In addition, the field team created insect hotels using recycled materials.

Installation of wildlife escape routes on the golf course ponds

Escape routes (nets) have been installed in the ponds to allow the various species to escape.

Conservation of remarkable trees with dendro-micro-habitats

Over the past year, maintenance work, mainly focused on pruning, has been carried out on the remarkable trees, with particular attention paid to the oaks.

Creation of refuge zones /Tampon

Buffer zones surrounding the ponds have been created with flowers and plants, reaching a height of around 60 cm.

These areas are cut back only once a year. The same protocol is applied to the storm water basins.

Continuing actions and raising awareness

Once it has been awarded the silver label, La Bastide de la Salette Golf Club undertakes to carry out the actions recommended by the naturalist organisation, either immediately or over the next five years. Four actions have been identified:

  • Improving ecological continuity by creating a passage in the golf course fencing.
  • Creation of pollarded trees, mainly oaks, on holes two and three.
  • Management of invasive exotic species: pampas grass, Provence cane and leuzine.
  • Implementation of an ecological species calendar.

The convictions, motivation and commitment of all the teams at Golf Bastide de la Salette to biodiversity and environmental initiatives are particularly interesting. The team made up of management and operational teams has demonstrated a heightened awareness of the issues surrounding biodiversity. They are not only passionate about preserving the environment, but also deeply invested in implementing initiatives that promote sustainability.
