La gestion éco-responsable du Golf Bastide de la Salette à Marseille

Eco-management at Golf Bastide de la Salette

Caring for the environment is a core concern for Resonance Golf Collection and Golf Bastide de la Salette. We consider the impact of pesticides on the fauna and subsoil, water scarcity and energy costs on a daily basis to prioritise caring for the environment and sustainability at all our Collection golf clubs.

Course maintenance with Simon Valmy, superintendent at Golf Bastide de la Salette

For several years, Golf Bastide de la Salette has been greatly committed to a green transition. Everything done on the golf course is carefully thought through in order to ensure that we care for the natural resources and biodiversity around us.

Assisted by his team, our superintendent Simon Valmy  structures his work around the three core concepts that form the foundation of responsible maintenance:

  • Water management
  • Protecting biodiversity
  • The controlled use of products

1. Water management

La gestion de l'eau au Golf Bastide de la Salette

Water management is one of the key challenges faced by Golf Bastide de la Salette in terms of a green transition. We all know how essential it is to conserve this resource.

This is why Golf Bastide de la Salette has invested heavily over the past few years in new sprinkler systems that enable us to accurately track the soil moisture levels and only water those areas that need it using independent, next-generation sprinklers.

Water conservation also involves understanding and studying the soil to ensure we use the right grass for the site.

2. Protecting biodiversity

Golf Bastide de la Salette - préservation de la biodiversité

Golf Bastide de la Salette acts as a ‘green lung’ and forms a valuable natural habitat for many species of flora and fauna.

That is why we are taking action to protect our ecosystem by creating habitats such as insect hotels, nesting boxes and more.

3. The controlled use of products

With the approaching 2025 deadline for zero pesticides, the controlled use of products has been a key challenge for Golf Bastide de la Salette. However, we are already in the transition phase and have been working towards it for many years by using biocontrol and other methods.

To help us adapt to this new land management approach, we are also implementing other initiatives in terms of equipment and soil analysis, in order to achieve plants that are self-sufficient and disease-resistant.

The environmental heritage of Golf Bastide de la Salette

Respecting, safeguarding and sustainably developing the environment of the site on which its 18-hole golf course lies is more than a priority for Bastide de la Salette. We have a duty of responsibility towards the rich biodiversity we have inherited.
The location of the building and the 70 hectares of greenery that make up the Golf Bastide de la Salette estate owe nothing to chance. Today, they tell the story of a past we must protect and enhance in the heart of Marseille.

The site on which the 18-hole golf course was built is the result of merging two previously neighbouring estates. The historical owners of this land had already preserved its natural environment.
